How to Beat the Winter Training Blues

"Winter doesn't have to be a time of hibernation for your horse, especially with these Hinterland training tools that make it that little bit easier to beat those winter training blues."

It's all-go here at Hinterland Headquarters. We're making way for new developments and preparing ourselves for a busy summer season with lots of exciting events, products and updates in the works! But as the days get shorter and the temperatures gets colder, we're finding it tougher to get out to the stables and ride our horses. However, winter doesn't have to be a time of hibernation for your horse, especially with these Hinterland training tools that make it that little bit easier to beat those winter training blues.

Winter Warm Ups: The Draw Reins

Warming up and stretching your horses muscles helps to prevent potential injuries and promotes performance. Cold weather can cause muscles to stiffen, and a proper warm-up routine helps increase blood flow, loosen muscles, and reduce the risk of strains or pulls.

We love using our Hinterland Draw Reins as a training tool when warming up as they can help improve a horse's balance, develop a more round and collected frame and encourage better engagement of their hindquarters.

Equipping your Spooky Horse: The Don't Look Back Blinkers

We've all struggled with our horse's becoming spooky on a winter evening or struggled with pent-up energy during bad weather. Our Don't Look Back Blinkers are the perfect tool to provide a sense of security and help prevent your horse from becoming easily startled or distracted by his surroundings

Winter Conditioning: The Gag Reins

Our Gag Reins are a useful training tool for conditioning your horse during winter by providing additional control and encouraging them to lift their shoulders and engage their core muscles, promoting strength and balance. They simply buckle onto the cheek pieces, allowing you to raise your horses head with the same action as a double-jointed bit!

Keep Your Control: The Marvellous and Ultimate Martingales

When riding in winter conditions, your horse may become more energetic or easily distracted. A martingale can help encourage a more consistent head carriage, promoting better collection and balance and also prevent him from tossing his head or evading the bit excessively.

Our Marvellous Martingale and Ultimate Martingale are both great options. The Ultimate Martingale is a versatile training tool in that the 'rings' are removable so you can go without, or swap for a Standing Martingale, V-Bib or Elastic Martingale Rings.

The Time Saver: The Your Hardest Worker Bridle

In winter time we want tacking up to be as seamless and quick as possible! The Your Hardest Worker Bridle is a no brainer for winter training! We designed this bridle specifically for riding at home with clips on the cheek pieces, throatlash and reins that make for fast bit changes!
